Diabetes prevalence for 2007 increased nationally to over 24 million people which is 8 %, an increase in 3 million over 2 years. It is now 25% of those over 60 years old. The break down into ethnicities is American Indians- 16.5%, Afican Americans- 11.8 %, Hispanics- 10.4%, Asian/Pacific Islander- 7.5 % and White- 6.6%. There are also over 57 million who may have prediabetes. CDC 2007 Only Orange County had a significant increase in the proportion of persons with diabetes of adults age 18 and over, from 4.6 percent in 2001 to 6.8 percent in 2003. |
